Will the competition be including all the playoff games?

That depends on whether you're still winning or not. Orignially it was planned that it was only for regular season games but we can keep it going into the playoffs if people want. It'd only be an extra 11 matches but would keep the interest up for those who haven't yet been bitten by the AF bug (I think!).

Don't forget that there are three matches on tonight so make sure you get your selections in on time. First match starts at 5.30 (Tennessee Titans @ Detroit Lions)

Well I don't mind whether it includes the playoff games or not. I'll let you and Decies come to a decision on it.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Badger has come up with a suggestion upon which he will elaborate in great detail later on. It's an exciting twist to the playoff games.

This sounds scary and I immediately disagree with it!

oh no it's an exciting prospect not to be missed. It won't really affect the prize fund for this stage of the competition and as it will be based on the playoff system used by the NFL as one of the top seeds you should be looking forward to it.

I will try to elaborate in 4 minutes before my next class!

Basically, I was thinking of an add-on to the current competition based on the playoffs. The idea would be that the top 12 qualify for the playoff rounds.

    - The 12 players are drawn into 2 'Conferences' (AFC and NFC)
    - Top 4 points scorers in the Regular season are seeded and get a bye to Round 2 (2 in each Conference)
    - Players finishing 5 to 12 enter at Round 1
    - Players are pared off in each round (eg: 5 v12) with the winners advancing and the losers eliminated.
    - The draw will follow the NFL seeding system exactly.
    - The winner of the AFC plays the winner of the NFC.
    - Will have to think of a solution for the Superbowl, so will get back to you!

There's only 14 players left in the competition and the top 12 go through so you have a fair chance. Also, DP missed a couple of weeks so has a lot of ground to make up. Ye should make the playoffs but ye probably won't have home field advantage and ye definitely won't be getting a bye.

We don't want to dilute the current prize too much so I'll throw in €50 for the playoff stage. Thus, the original prize fund of €150 will still be divided out between the top three in the regular season as agreed before. Of course if anyone wants to donate €10 or €20 to increase the prize fund for the play offs then feel free.

At the moment it's €50 and each conference winner will get €15 and the superbowl winner will get an additional €20. In other words, whoever wins the superbowl will get €35 and the runner-up will get €15. If anyone donates to the prize fund then we'll adjust the figures. I know it's recessionary times but a few euro isn't much to ask for since we'll have been running this for 21 weeks by the time the season is over and a small amount like €10 isn't much to ask for in order to have an interest in a comp for so long and two chances at winning some cash. Decies has already donated €150 to this so obviously we won't expect any more from him.

We'll sort out all the finer details when the playoffs are upon us in January and we'll explain the playoff system and how the seedings work to anyone not familiar with it. The number of matches each week will decrease so it'd be wise for everyone to pm their selections to me and I'll post them all up before kick off. Otherwise we could have copying. It is likely, especially as we get nearer the superbowl game, that people will have picked idendical selections. To get over this we'll have a tie-breaker question each week. It'll be something like guess the total number of points in a game or something like that with a large range of values so that we can break a tie if needed.

If at the end of the regular season people are tied in the league table then we will go on the previous week's selections. If they are equal we'll go back to the week before that and keep going until the tie is broken.

As Badger said the top two seeds in each conference (which will be made up of the top 4 at the end of the regular season) get a bye and then the seedings determine the other two match-ups in each division. The winner of each of those match-ups goes on to play one of the top teams (that got a bye) and the winners of that get to play in the conference final and the winners of each conference play each other in the superbowl. Straightforward I'm sure ye'll all agree! It's not like a cup draw where you know for sure who will play who in the next round as it all depends on the seedings of the winning teams but we'll hopefully make it clearer as the time approaches.

    Any questions/comments/suggestions/donations?

Nevermind a play-off spot, you should be able to be seeded and get a bye.
