A horse that's shown a bit of promise, notably last time out at Chepstow when a fair fourth in a Novice Hurdle back in November. Had a small break since and had a wind op during that time to help with his breathing. Is also expected to benefit from running in a handicap now for the first time and even though the Skelton horse is feared, feel we are not without an each-way chance here.

Hot race and returning from almost a year off here so would be a tall order. Does, however, have a very light weight (10-1), which will help in the ground and seems well at home. Plus, does actually have a fair record when fresh - last two wins came off 4 1/2 months and 8 months off, so that gives us some hope, but nice to get going with him again here.

Kaphumor has been disappointing in both of his races for me this season having won a point to point previously. He’s a horse that shows plenty at home on the gallops but he has not travelled in his races and I think he might need some form of headgear on in future and he’s most likely to go chasing after today.

A Time To Shine is a huge horse who finished third in a point to point before joining me and he has been placed in both of his hurdle runs this season. This will be his chasing debut but he jumps so well and because he’s got such an enormous stride hurdles look too small for him.

Dropping mark is a help and is also a past CD winner here, but returning from another 3 months off so feel he'll improve for this. Another of ours that's on a bit of a recovery mission after some average runs at the end of last season. Has also had a wind op since his last run so we'll be hoping he can kick on now. Small break so expected to improve for the outing, but 5lbs lower than last run and Charlie's 5lb claim means we are 10lbs better off than last time. Trip and ground are fine though and slight ease in grade a further help. But really on first run back (after op) we'd like to see some improvement on the track first.

Francolin is a good looking son of Cokoriko, it’s not a sire I know but he’s got a good attitude and he enjoys his work so I would be happy to have more. He was kindly sent to me by his breeder, he was due to run in point to points but that has obviously been curtailed this spring. He’s not been with me for very long but he does go nicely enough.

LOSTINTRANSLATION (C Tizzard) has been disappointing this season but they’ve sent him for a wind-op again and given he finished a close 3rd in the Gold Cup the last time he had the op it does just make me sit up and take note a bit (there are also the Tizzard first time up off a wind-op stats to keep in mind… C Tizzard | Horses on first run off a wind-op | fields of 10 or less | 5 or less starts in last 365 days | SP 7/1 or less = 10/22 | 45% S/R | +£27.07 BFLSP – W&P 14/22 | 64% S/R – 100% above exp). He is a horse I feel is at his absolute best off shorter breaks but again that Gold Cup third came off a longer break (78 days) so he can do it if all other conditions are in his favour, which they do appear to be here… 0-2 previous starts in season | Galloping tracks | Soft or Good to Soft = 1113122 (4/7, 2p - 4 of 5 career wins). It’s a Tizzard horse so it comes with it’s own warning right now but at 4-1+ in this field I thought it worth having a crack at, with conditions to suit and the first time up off a wind-op hopefully having an impact.

Pebbly ran well first time out at Hereford when finishing third, it was his first outing for eighteen months and only his second ever race so there’s going to be a lot of improvement in him. Pebbly is a big horse who is going to be a cracking staying chaser once he’s gained some racing experience, I’ve given him plenty of time to recover from that race and the conditions and trip today should be perfect for him. Harry rides to take off 5lbs too, so that helps - should have every chance and looking forward to seeing him run.

There are reasons for giving this frustrating novice another chance on what promises to be better ground than he has been facing of late, with the step up to 3m looking a good call. A deluge put paid to his chances at Doncaster in November and the ground again looked an issue when fourth in a better race than this at Market Rasen next time. Having had wind surgery, he enjoyed a racecourse gallop 11 days ago which should clear the pipes, and now down to a very favourable mark he can take advantage of the drop in grade with trainer Lucy Wadham going well.
