    Cheltenham Festival

Surprised no thread opened on the great meeting..it starts a week today!

Best of the Irish for me has to be: The Big Getaway

Who hopefully Willie Mullins is targeting the Ballymore on Wednesday. He impressed me winning his maiden at Naas

Currently 7-1 or 13-2 [Non Runner No Bet]
At all points in our lives you will either be underrated or overrated

Also on the Wednesday in the RSA another decent Irish horse that will carry my money is former Festival winner: Minella Indo

Always got to respect this week his trainer Henry de Bromhead, and liked the way his horse galloped and jumped when winning at Navan.

    Currently NRNB 4-1

Tony Martin is another Irish Trainer to keep on the right side at Cheltenham, and he has a young horse entered in a few handicaps but I'm hoping he runs this particular horse in the Kim Muir on Thursday: At The Acorn

Was unlucky not to win a big handicap at the Dublin Festival, and will have a decent each way chance here

    Currrently NRNB 10-1 [4 Places]

As QC pointed out, there wasn’t much in the race but I just liked the way Panic Attack won and I will stick with it for the bumper.

If it's not too soft pentland hills could very well win the champion hurdle. Needs goodish ground and will go well if getting it.

I've narrowed it down to just a dozen in the first race . Driving me mad. Broke my normal common sense rule and had a load of antepost bets, very few of which have put me in a better position than if I'd not bothered but one of them is Asterion Forlonge and that was only a tiny bit better at 7/2. I've got off to a flyer with this race at some previous meetings (non more so than the donkey that wouldn't start that went and hosed up at 40/1 or something) but I'm struggling to find a decent ew shout. I will definitely have more than one bet in the race (as with most of the races) and I'll probably have to stick with Abracadabras or Fiddler on the Roof, neither of which are very inspiring.

I have most of Jax's selections on my list (sorry Jax)and Esprit du large is one of them in the second race. Only one selection in that one.

250 I have Who Dares Wins antepost which QC tells me can't win so that's a bet wasted. I'll probably add No Comment in the morning

330 Supersundae is another I've heard too many negative comments about (backed at 14/1 and 12/1 antepost) but there is money for it tonight so I'm happy with that one at least and I have a decent back and lay bet on Cornerstone Lad

410 We all know that anything can happen in this game but Benie Des Deux will probably have to fall over to lose this one. Pity about the price but my two "bankers" of the week would be this one and A plus tard in the Ryanair on Thursday (currently 2/1). Not that I'll be lumping on anything this week - playing for an interest only and I wouldn't normally touch an odds-on shot at the festival but......

450 Espoir De Geye I have ended up with a decent price for, albeit with fewer places than I could now get and I'm intending to back Lord Schnitzel tomorrow when it's finished drifting (don't ask)

530 I think Carefully Selected was probably the first antepost bet I put on and (again, don't ask because I can't even remember why) Some can Dance which is currently 200/1. I think I'm going to back Ravenhill. There are some recognisable amateur jockeys in this race but I doubt that many of them will have had as many winners at the festival as JJ Codd and I'll probably have a little bit on all three of his rides this week.

Rachel Blackmore for top jockey anyone? 5/1 this morning

    Supreme - no idea

    Arkle - no idea

Ultima - The Conditional at 7/1 e/w. Ground and trip spot on. Won at the track. Still some improvement in him I think. Should be thereabouts.

Champion Hurdle - no idea but I've backed Coeur Sublime at 16/1 e/w. Hoping that the wind op and tongue tie brings out some surprise improvement.

Mares - I'd side with Benie Des Dieux but she's gone quite short.

Novices' Handicap Chase - Beakstown at 12/1 e/w. Typical Skelton job.

    Best of luck all!

Unlucky mate, missing out by one place. William Hill were paying 7 places, obviously slightly reduced odds though

    Decent day yesterday.

Today, in the Coral Cup, I'm taking a shot on Bachasson at 25/1 e/w (6 places). Has a bit of class, nice comeback run. At his best, he's better than a 148 hurdler.

In the Champion Chase, it's a shame Altior is missing. Could've been a brilliant race but it still might be. I think Defi Du Seuil at 5/4 is a good bet to be strongest in the finish.

Cross Country - Tiger Roll is one of the better 5/6 shots you'll find in racing.

In the Bumper, I have no real clue but I might chance Queens Brook at 8/1 e/w for the Coddfather.
